FAQ Main OR Surgery

  • The TW office will provide you with the date and arrival time for your surgery. All main OR surgeries are carried out at Humber River Hospital (1235 Wilson Avenue Toronto, Ontario M3M 0B3).

  • The TW office will advise you whether any further consultations or lab tests are required prior to the procedure. 

    Approximately 1 week prior to surgery, the Pre-Screening Department at Humber River Hospital will contact you for a telephone interview or an in-person assessment at the hospital. For the latter you may be asked to undergo a medical consultation, further investigations and/or blood work. Please ensure you follow fasting guidelines prior to surgery as advised. 

  • You will be instructed by your surgeon as well as the Pre-Screening Department whether and when specific medications have to be held prior to your surgery. Do not take any herbal supplements, garlic, ginkgo, ginseng, Vitamin E, CBD oil for 2 weeks prior to your surgery unless discussed with your surgeon. Please advise your surgeon should you take any other supplements.

  • On the day of your surgery, please attend to the Humber River Hospital - Surgical Registration (2nd Floor). Please allow for ample time for parking and transfer.

  • Please bring a valid OHIP card. Wear lose fitting, comfortable clothing. You may bring your own duffle bag to store your belongings while at the hospital.  For breast/chest surgery patients, please ensure you bring your post-operative bra or chest vest with you.

  • Yes. For same-day-discharge patients, please ensure a care partner is on standby to pick you up from the Day Surgery Area (2nd Floor) following surgery. Your care partner may in the waiting area and will be contacted to pick you up from the. Your care partner care partner can receive real-time updates about your location via text messaging. Please inquire with the registration desk for further details.

  • Humber River Hospital has two large parkades (East and West) for paid parking. For a facility map please see:

  • You should eat a well-balanced diet, including foods high in protein, vitamin C, zinc, iron, and calcium as these will help with wound healing and surgical recovery. Please ensure that you drink plenty of water and eat high fibre foods to prevent constipation.

  • The TW office will advise you of the date and time for your first follow-up appointment with Dr Vojvodic.
